ESPN software engineer Jeff Holdsworth’s death is confirmed. He passed away on April 14, 2024, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT. He was 37 at the time of his demise.
However, the cause of his death remains undisclosed.
Initially, neither ESPN nor any family members, including his wife, have confirmed his passing. But on April 18, Hartford confirmed the news by releasing his obituary.

Born on January 29, 1987, in Columbia, PA, Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Jessica; his parents, Robert and Tammy (Frey) Holdsworth; sisters Rebekah Lutz and Lisa Gingerich.
According to Hartford, visitation will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funk Funeral Home, located at 35 Bellevue Ave, Bristol, CT. Funeral services are scheduled for the following day, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM, also at Funk Funeral Home. The interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Who Was Jeff Holdsworth? His Role At ESPN
Holdsworth built a distinguished career in software engineering, significantly contributing to various sectors before settling into the sports industry. Since December 2011, Jeff had been a pivotal member at ESPN in Bristol, CT, holding the position of software engineer III. His innovative contributions included developing the Baseball/Softball Stats Interface System.
He also played a crucial role in creating the NBA Draft Combine System, collaborating directly with the NBA to parse real-time data and integrate it into live broadcasts through complex software solutions.
His technical expertise extended to the NCAA Wrestling Megacast and remote football statistics systems.
Before joining ESPN, his journey in the tech industry began at the Philadelphia Water Department as a junior programmer in April 2007. He then moved to Lincoln Financial Group in April 2008 as a data analyst.
From July 2010 until November 2011, Jeff worked at Fidelity Investments as a systems analyst.
As for his academic background, Holdsworth went to Columbia High School and Middle School. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Drexel University in 2010. During his studies, Jeff was involved in Alpha Pi Lambda, focusing on Database Management.

He was living in West Hartford, Connecticut, with his wife, Jessica Pieri Holdsworth until his death. The couple tied the knot on August 19, 2022, at Wythe Hotel, in New York.
Their relationship, having started before 2019, has been well-documented on their social media handles.
Holdsworth’s wife Jessica has established a significant presence in the legal field, taking on several roles across different organizations. Since October 2022, she has been a professional liability claim counsel at Travelers in Hartford, Connecticut, where she manages complex legal claims and offers specialized legal advice in professional liability.
Before her current role, she was an associate at Goldberg Segalla from April 2021 to September 2022. She also worked as an associate attorney at Jackson O’Keefe, LLP from May 2019 to March 2021, where she developed strategies for various cases for large insurance companies. Her career in law began at the Law Offices of Alfred Morrocco in Bristol, Connecticut, from December 2018 to May 2019.
Additionally, Jessica served as a legal counsel and research analyst at the House Republican Office, Connecticut General Assembly, from December 2016 to December 2018.
In terms of her education, she earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Litigation from the Charlotte School of Law. While there, she was an associate editor and senior articles editor for the Charlotte Law Review and held leadership roles on the Trial Advocacy Board. She completed her undergraduate studies at Bentley University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Finance and Accounting in 2012.
