Her mother Patsy Lynn, one of Loretta Lynn’s twin daughters and half of the sister duo The Lynns alongside her twin sister Peggy Lynn, played a significant role in nurturing Emmy’s love for music and honing her skills.

Growing up on the ranch in Hurricane Mills, just outside of Nashville, both Patsy and Emmy were immersed in a musical environment. Beyond her singing career, Patsy has also dabbled in acting, with credits in shows like “Fire Down Under,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” and more.

Further, as a devoted mother, Patsy’s presence at Emmy’s “American Idol” audition reflects her unwavering support for her daughter’s musical endeavors. She said of her daughter,

Through her family’s encouragement and mentorship, Emmy continues to develop her musical gift and pursue her passion for country music. She hails from a big family of five siblings: three brothers named David, Philip David, and half-brother Anthony Brutto, along with two sisters, Melody, and Jennifer Russell.

She belongs to a mixed ethnicity, where her great-maternal grandmother, Clara, was of Scots-Irish and Cherokee ancestry.

Emmy Russell’s Grandmother, Loretta Lynn Was an Iconic Country Music Singer

Loretta was a legendary American country music singer-songwriter who had a remarkable career spanning six decades. She released multiple gold albums and had numerous hits like “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “You Ain’t Woman Enough.”

Alongside her marvelous music career, Lynn also received numerous prestigious awards and accolades, including three Grammy Awards. Despite health setbacks, including a stroke in 2017 and a broken hip in 2018, Lynn’s legacy as a pioneering figure in country music remains unparalleled.

Emmy also credits her late grandmother as one of the main inspirations in her burgeoning singing career. Sadly, Lynn died on October 4, 2022.

According to TV Insider, Russell made a memorable appearance at the Grand Ole Opry House in April 2023. She paid tribute to her grandmother with a heartfelt song titled “Memaw’s Guitar.”

Additionally, Russell performed at her grandmother’s memorial broadcast on CMT in October 2022, alongside Lukas Nelson, son of Willie Nelson. Their rendition of “Lay Me Down” earned her a nomination for Performance of the Year at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.
