Shekinah Pugh, the youngest sister of actor Zachary Levi, known for his roles in “Chuck,” “Shazam!”, and the fantasy film “Tangled,” faced a challenging year in 2015. During this period, the Pugh siblings mourned the loss of their mother, and Zachary experienced a personal setback with his divorce from actress Missy Peregrym after less than a year of marriage.

During these tough times, Levi, also known for his role in “Tangled Ever After,” struggled deeply with his mental health. He openly admitted to feeling like a failure for much of his life and did not fully understand his issues until a severe downward spiral resulted in a mental breakdown at the age of 37. At a critical juncture, a close friend recommended he seek professional help. He later underwent three weeks of therapy that he described as “intensive life-changing, life-saving therapy.”

The suicides of Robin Williams, Anthony Bourdain, and Kate Spade profoundly impacted him. Speaking to ET, he expressed deep admiration for Williams,

Robin, he was a hero of mine. His talent, his heart, the way he loved people, the way that he loved the homeless, the way that he cared about them, he was a really, truly, deeply empathetic person who really cared about other human beings, and yet was so tortured in his own mind.

Amidst these difficulties, Zachary’s sister Shekinah played a crucial role in helping him explore their family history.

Shekinah Pugh Now Live In California With Her Husband and Kids

Pugh has been happily married to Ian McGlocklin for nearly a decade. Together, they have two children and currently reside in Glendale, California. The couple shares a nine-year age gap, with Shekinah born in April 1983 and Ian in December 1973.

Her Husband McGlocklin Is a Cinematographer

Ian is an Emmy-winning director of photography based in Los Angeles, California, who has a distinguished career characterized by his versatility and international experience. His work spans various genres, from narrative films to documentaries, often in some of the world’s most perilous locations.

Notable projects include his work in Afghanistan on the indie film “Black Tulip” and his ventures into the icy waters of the Southern Ocean for Animal Planet’s “Whale Wars.”

He has also won multiple accolades for his technical skills and artistic eye, including a Daytime Emmy in 2015 for his cinematography on the PBS series “Mind of a Chef” and a Prime Time Emmy in 2019 for his camera work on the “Carpool Karaoke Prime Time Special” on CBS. An honors graduate of Emerson College, Ian is also a member of the International Cinematographer’s Guild and the Society of Camera Operators.

Furthermore, since January 2006, McGlocklin has been freelancing as a director of photography at Vessel Pictu in the Greater Los Angeles area. He continues to refine his craft, working on prominent networks such as CNN, CBS, FOX, Discovery Channel, and Travel Channel.

Her Parents Divorced When She Was a Child

Shekinah, the daughter of Darrell Pugh and Susan Marie, had a challenging childhood marked by her parents’ divorce before she was five years old. She grew up in Ventura, California, alongside her two siblings, including her sister Sarah Elizabeth Pugh, an event planner and designer. Following the divorce, her mother remarried a man whom her brother, Zachary, described as a perfectionist. He characterized their mother as having a borderline personality disorder.

Zachary shared insights into the family dynamics, explaining how his mother’s moods could dramatically affect the household. He recalled with ET, “If she was in a bad mood, it was the end of the world. I was an embarrassment to the family. I mean, it was lots of vitriol, lots of yelling.”

Adding to the complexity of their family life, Susan struggled with alcoholism and later turned to pills, using substances to self-medicate.

The family briefly relocated to Washington State before returning to Ventura.

Shekinah is of English, Welsh, and German descent.

Both of Her Parents Are Dead Now

Susan Marie Hoctor Pugh, born on October 6, 1950, in Saint Louis, MO, passed away on October 8, 2015, at her home in Santa Paula, CA. A graduate of Buena High School, Susan was a cheerleader and competitive swimmer during her school years.

Her ex-husband, Darrell, who had been struggling with thyroid cancer, passed away on January 26, 2023. The Thor: The Dark World star announced his father’s death on Instagram. He wrote,

“Many of you have been asking for an update on my dad, Darrell. Though he fought valiantly until the end, my pop passed away peacefully a few days ago, surrounded by friends and family.”
