Samuel Adewunmi, known for his unique presence and exceptional talent, is set to captivate audiences as Frank in the British television series Queenie, starring alongside Dionne Brown. His character Frank is someone who is well invested in his community and has known Queenie since high school.

Hailed for his powerful performances in acclaimed productions like The Last Tree and The Hatton Garden Job, Adewunmi’s ascent in the entertainment industry is nothing short of remarkable.

As he prepares to take on his latest role, let’s dive into the journey of this talented actor and explore what makes him one of the most exciting emerging stars in the British television landscape.

A Chance Encounter at a Store Revived His Acting Career

Samuel’s journey to becoming a celebrated actor started at a surprisingly young age. At just three years old, he participated in a school play, where he played the role of an elf, and by the age of eight, he had already graced the stage of the prestigious Camden People’s Theatre in a community play.

However, the path to success wasn’t always smooth. Adewunmi faced several setbacks and found himself working at the House of Fraser department store on London’s bustling Oxford Street. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. One Christmas Eve, an encounter with a stranger changed everything.

While working at the store, Samuel met a man who, after a brief conversation, saw hidden potential in him. The stranger, himself an actor, recognized a kindred spirit and offered a life-altering piece of advice; “You don’t look like you should be working here, you look like you should be an actor.

Recalling the incident during an interview with Metro UK Samuel said,

And because I’d been thinking about acting, it felt like a sign from God, like God had spoken to me through him.

This encounter led him to the Identity School of Acting, an institution that resonated deeply with him and offered a clear path forward at a time when he felt lost.

Samuel’s Breakthrough Role Came In 2016

The British actor always dreamed of acting and got his big break playing Benedict in the web series Dixi in 2016. In 2017, he starred in The Hatton Garden Job and made a guest appearance on Doctor Who. In 2019, his lead role in The Last Tree gained critical acclaim, winning him the award for Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards.

Maintaining his momentum, Adewunmi tackled a variety of projects in 2021. He played a significant role in the suspenseful ITV thriller Angela Black. Samuel also returned to television in a leading role, portraying Hero in the BBC One adaptation of You Don’t Know Me.

Adewunmi’s Mom Left Nigeria for the UK in Search of Better Opportunities

Samuel was born in 1994 in Camden, London, and was raised by a single mother alongside his brother. His mother, a professional chef with Nigerian Yoruba roots, moved to the UK from Nigeria, believing it to be a land of opportunities.
