Jonathan Banks is widely recognized for playing the tough character Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad, but many fans might not be aware of his softer side. Beyond his screen roles, Jonathan has shown himself to be a devoted husband and a wonderful father.

This gentler aspect of his personality was already evident in his youth. At the age of 21, Jonathan married his first wife Marnie Fausch in September 1968. Unfortunately, this initial marriage was short-lived as it ended by 1970 under circumstances that remain somewhat mysterious.

Marnie was more than just a brief part of Jonathan’s life; she made a significant impact. She founded the Boca Beacon, leaving a legacy of community involvement and strong journalism. Sadly, she died at age 43 in 1991 in a car accident. Her influence lives on through her daughter and the lasting effects of her work.

Jonathan finally found the love of his life in his second wife, Gennera Gonzalez Cebian, whom he married in December 1990. Their enduring relationship has spanned over three decades and is blessed with three children.

Jonathan Talks About His “Stupid” Love For His Wife

Renowned for his stern roles on screen, the actor shows a gentler side when it comes to his wife, Gennera. At the 2023 SAG Awards, he introduced her to the Los Angeles Times. When asked about their perfect movie date night, Gennera’s answer was simple: “Popcorn.” Jonathan added with a smile, “And I usually fall asleep.”

The Breaking Bad star has never been shy about his feelings for Gennera. He openly cherishes the moments they spend together, especially now as they enjoy more time alone. Reflecting on this, he said:

I love being at home. My wife and I for the first time are alone. I like my wife. I’m stupid in love with my wife and always have been. (sic)

Jonathan’s heartfelt words and the candid moments they share reveal a deep, enduring affection that has only grown stronger over the years.

Gennera Learned About Thanksgiving After Moving to the US

The Banks home comes alive during the holidays with a blend of American and Spanish traditions. Gennera, originally from Spain and having moved to the U.S. in the 1980s, has embraced American customs. Though she was initially unfamiliar with Thanksgiving, she now impresses everyone with her turkey stuffing.

She had no idea what Thanksgiving was, but now she makes the best turkey stuffing. Then on Christmas Eve we have a Spanish Christmas and the table groans. It’s just magnificent,” Jonathan shares. The house fills with laughter and love, welcoming both family and friends as they celebrate in both Spanish and American styles.

All the kids come home, boyfriends, husbands, whatever. They all come home and there are a lot of people in my house over Christmas, it’s great, ” he adds, highlighting the joy and warmth of their festive gatherings.

Through the actor’s eyes, it’s clear that the secret to their lasting bond is a profound mutual respect and joy in each other’s company—a true Hollywood love story off the screen.

Jonathan and His Wife Are Parents To Two Children

Jonathan Banks and his wife, Gennera Gonzalez Cebian, are proud parents to two children; twins, Claudio Banks and Becca Elena Banks. Additionally, Jonathan has embraced Ruth García González, Gennera’s daughter from a previous relationship, as his own.

Becca works as a production coordinator at Walt Disney Animation Studios, handles PR and Marketing at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and serves as a Story & Script Coordinator at Pixar, with past roles at Nickelodeon Animation.

Like Becca, Ruth graduated from Indiana University, where Jonathan also studied. All of Jonathan and Gennera’s children are married and have their own families and children.

Jonathan also has a daughter, Joanna Banks-Morgan, from his first marriage. Joanna is a talented filmmaker and photographer.

Jonathan’s kindness and instinctive parenting have fostered close bonds within his family. Reflecting on fatherhood, he shared:

I’m a father of four and I would imagine at this stage there is a lot of instinct involved just from life lived that transfers itself. You know, you try to be kind. You try to be kind to a child. I don’t know that I really think about it too much.

Gennera is the heart and soul of the Banks family. Becca often shares loving tributes to her mother, appreciating the elegance, passion, and strength that Gennera has taught her.
