Snoop Dogg Makes $8000 For Promotional Tweets

Man. If only I could snag that 8k for tweeting about a product. According to NY Mag, Mr. Dogg makes that much money for doing a little tweet tweeting. Not bad for typing 140 characters or less. The biggest player in the pay-to-tweet market is Ad.ly, a social-media advertorial clearinghouse pairing brands with celebs to inject highly personalized advertising into their Twitter streams.

The Weeknd to FINALLY Tour???!?

For any other artist in the industry this would be a minor announcement, but this Toronto guy has established himself over the past 8 months by putting out two critically lauded bodies of work while not showing his face (for the most part).

Purely speculation, but judging from him it seems like he will finally go on tour following the release of his third mixtape, Echoes of Silence (Being told it will be released this month). If I were to assume a general time frame to start seeing tour dates pop up, I would guess some time in February 2012.

Quotable: Drake’s Thoughts on Social Media

Interesting perception from Drake. His thoughts on Tumblr:

“I’m really scared for my generation, you know. The thing that scares me most is Tumblr. I hate what Tumblr has become. Because it like, it reminds me of those clique-y girls in high school that used to make fun of everyone else and define what was cool, but in five years, when you all graduate, that shit doesn’t matter. No one gives a fuck about that shit. Instead of kids going out and making their own moments, they’re just taking these images and living vicariously through other people’s moments. It just kills me. Then you’ll meet them and they’re just the biggest turkey in the world. They don’t actually embody any of those things. They just emulate. It’s scary man, simulation life that we’re living. It scares me.”

His thoughts on twitter:

“I’ll tell you, my biggest thing was, I remember, it was on twitter. I remember the day my mom was getting surgery and someone came on Twitter and they were like, ‘Yo, Drake, I hope your mom dies.’ You don’t really mean that. …Like, you know you’re going to see something bad. Out of 1000 compliments, it’s so crazy. It’s basically, like, when you used to sit there as a kid, and want to know what everyone is thinking. That’s your superpower. [Twitter is] knowing what everyone is thinking.”

Drake Reacts to Album Leak

Drake took to twitter to handle the unfortunate news that Take Care leaked by offering a calm and collected response:

I am not sure if the album leaked. But if it did thank god it doesn’t happen a month early anymore. Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it…and take care until next time.

At this point in the industry, unless you’re releasing it in the same fashion Watch the Throne was released, this is the right way to handle an inevitable leak.

I firmly believe that EVERY artists camp, both at the label as well as their personal music team, should have sort of a Album Leak Reaction Plan – something they do to thwart potential premature album downloads and/or guide people’s attention away from the leak.  Easier said than done, but innovation is at an all time high nowadays.
