J.D.’s Lens: KAWS at the Standard
I still consider HHU a personal blog rather than a formal site. The difference? To me, a regular website is an objective news/music source that adds no personal flavor. On HHU, you get my sarcasm, opinions, my wit, and personal coverage of events I attend in the My Life section.
As a way to continually personalize HHU, I wanted to start incorporating picture posts. Rather than make a tumblr page (which I don’t like the concept of) of other peoples pictures, I will be uploading my personal pics from around the city from shows, people I meet, etc. Not strictly hip hop. I already have the My Photos section, but I haven’t kept up with that as much. I feel like this is a more efficient way of keeping material fresh, since I don’t think everyone clicks on the tabs underneath the HHU header.
Also, for many that don’t know, I’m in the process of creating a strictly photo/event based website. I’m not sure if I’ll try to feed the site off HHU or keep it separately, but it seems silly to take hundreds of pictures of an event but only being able to include a few in a post. That site will incorporate photos from all genres of music and every event I attend – as well as daily shots if, for instance, I take a day to roam the Lower East Side and snap a nice gallery.
Just wanted to give a heads up and thanks for the continued support.
Kanye Performs Impromptu Show Last Night in NYC
Must have been at great time at 3am. Says Vulture:
So it’s no wonder that around 3 a.m., Kanye — seen in public not wearing a suit, for the first time in months — showed up at a party celebrating the end of summer hours at Boom. By that time, the crowd of ten bajillion celebrities who’d either migrated from a Chanel dinner for Karl Lagerfeld or shown up just to show up — including Naomi Campbell, Liv Tyler, Jessica Szohr, Chace Crawford, Diane Kruger, Elijah Wood, and pretty much every other famous person on the planet — had gone home. Typical, tardy Kanye.
When he arrived, Standard owner Andre Balazs led him to a spot by the pool table. But Kanye was apparently so inspired by seeing his explicit video in the elevator that he soon jumped on the bar to sing “Power.” The crowd, naturally, went nuts. And the D.J.’s smartly moved into playing “Good Life,” which Kanye sang along to as well. Soon, others in the crowd had jumped onto the bar and were singing and dancing along with him.
Pretty Sick.
