Quotable: Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon on Working With Kanye West

He just came to our London show. He brought a date, and he wore a really nice suit. He’s very capable of being very chill, actually. As a matter of fact, when we were working in Hawaii together [on songs for West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy], I was definitely the guy that was partying more than him. He was more concerned with making the record good [laughs]. I think I drank more of his Hennessy than he did. He was mostly having bowls of Trix and making sure the session was going well.

Mannie Fresh Joining G.O.O.D. Music Team?

Interesting interview by the guys over at Hip Hop DX. Here’s the excerpt for which Mannie talks about G.O.O.D. Music:

DX: Going back to that [tour] clip, you’re seen in there giving a nice little motivational speech to the G.O.O.D. Music fam. So does this mean you’re officially G.O.O.D. Music in-house yourself now?

Mannie Fresh: Well, we working that out. I’m kind of funny about signing with people. Dude, I’ve been through so much. And I’m not saying I think Kanye is a bad person, but I can’t tell you what that is right now. It’s really on me, and what space I’m in. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do it, but it’s gotta be something that makes sense for me.

DX: Was any sort of formal offer put forward, or any extending of the hand saying “If you want to, come on”?

Mannie Fresh: I can’t really say if [there was]. It’s one of them things where – Let me just put it like this, Kanye is kinda mysterious about the things that he do. And I can’t really let no cats out the bag. I’m sorry to give you an answer like that, but I can’t really say what’s in the works. Y’all just gotta wait to see what happens.

Kanye West Allegedly Preparing to Shoot a Film in the Middle East

Today in mysterious but too-good-to-ignore Kanye rumors: ‘Ye is reportedly planning another short art film, à la his 30-minute music video for “Runaway,” that will be filmed somewhere in the Gulf. “His reps seemed genuinely enthusiastic about creating a piece which highlights the culture accurately,” says the New York Observer’s source. “They discussed how Kanye is looking to bridge the cultural divide and break misconceptions.” ‘Ye is also apparently interested in using local talent, or, more specifically, “flashy” Sheikhs.

Nabil Elderkin Collaborating with Kanye West for “Watch the Throne” Tour Photo Book

I can’t read French, but apparently our friends got a translation of a recent interview and it says this (via Director/Photographer Nabil Elderkin):

As usual, Kanye asked me to come with him on the tour and to document it. We’ve been around the world … It was crazy. We then published a book of photos on the tour. Recently, Kanye has asked me to accompany him on tour Watch the Throne . We will definitely make a book after this tour, too.

Elderkin also provided the photos for the Glow in the Dark tour photo book and has collaborated with Kanye West on numerous music videos. I didn’t personally attend the tour, but I’m sure this would appeal to those who went as well as Kanye/Jay-Z fans in general.

Kanye West & Jay-Z Allegedly Earn $3 Mil EACH to Play a 16th Birthday

Laugh all the way to the bank, if this report is accurate. Kanye West and Jay-Z were paid just under £4 million to play live at the 16th birthday party of the daughter of an Arab billionaire.

The rappers, who released their much anticipated collaboration album ‘Watch The Throne’ earlier this year, were reportedly paid a fee of £1.9 million ($2.9 million) each to perform the gig, which took place in Dubai around two weeks before Christmas.

According to The Sun, the rappers performed several sets at the party, which was given to celebrate the 16th birthday of the girl, who is also the niece of Sheikh Mansour, the multi billionaire owner of Manchester City Football Club.
