¡MAYDAY! ‘Stuck On An Island’ Album Info And Tracklist

via the press release

October 12 marks the latest release from Miami-based hip-hop collective ¡MAYDAY! entitled Stuck on an Island (¡MAYDAY! Music). Stuck on an Island is the follow-up to 2009’s teaser EP Technology, both of which blaze with an upbeat, tightly wound energy that keeps the listener grooving with its slick production and singing along with its ultra-catchy hooks. The album’s title pays homage to the trials and tribulations the band has faced trying to “escape” Miami. Producer/guitarist Plex Luthor explains: “Miami is paradise, but at the same time the geography has always made us feel like outsiders in the larger pond. We want to get our music to the masses, but sometimes the walls around the port of Miami make it difficult to break out. We want to make sure the world knows musicians from this city can compete culturally with the best of them.”

While Stuck on an Island is only ¡MAYDAY!’s second full-length album, the band has consistently turned out addictive urban alternative tracks that have permeated the local Miami music scene and beyond, grabbing the ear of hip-hip impresario Lil’ Wayne who used the group as his personal band in the videos “Get a Life,” “Da Da Da” and “On Fire.” ¡MAYDAY! also collaborated with Cee-Lo on the hit song “Groundhog Day” from their self-titled debut of which mtvU said, “Like Gorillaz covering Gnarls Barkley, the gospel funk-hop assault of the¡MAYDAY! single “Groundhog Day” would be enough for most to base a career on.” The music video logged over 2 million hits on YouTube in its first two days and made the band a breakout success story, garnering attention from the New York Times, MTV and URB Magazine. They went on to share stages with Daft Punk, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Method Man, winning over audiences around the country with their high-octane live show.

The dynamic songs Stuck on an Island call to mind a who’s who of alt-hip-hop’s most cutting edge and creative stars like Gnarls Barkley, N*E*R*D or Lupe Fiasco. Tracks like “I’ll Be Gone,” “Picture Perfect,” “No 1’s Looking,” “Worse Case Scenario,” and “Make a Living” form the backbone of an album of diverse styles that always manages to surprise and never ceases to get your head bobbing and your body moving.

Freddie Gibbs ‘Str8 Killa’ EP New Artwork Posted

On July 27th, XXL will have the Freddie Gibbs ‘Str8 Killa’ EP available for free download and a week later Decon gets the physical version to sell in-stores August 3rd. Looking at the tracklist on Amazon, it doesn’t appear to include the track ‘The Coldest’ ft. B.J. The Chicago Kid as previously reported. I’m guessing, either it will be on the XXL version as an exclusive or it was held back to be seen at a later time.

J.Cole’s Single to Drop Next Week

So, according to world famous DJ Semtex, J.Cole’s single is supposedly going to drop next week at some point. That single being, “Who Dat,” which can be found around the net right now as a live performance. Semtex also has high praise for some of the music he’s heard off of the album as he states below:

Just heard several tracks from the forth-coming J Cole album, as well as the single ‘Who Dat’ that is about to drop next week.

All i’m saying is that No ID did his thing…..expeditiously. I’m not snitching out any of the track titles or anything, but if you liked ‘Blueprint 1′ by Hov, this is probably going to kill your ipod.

There is no doubt that J Cole is going to drop one of the hottest albums of 2010.

Are you excited for Cole World to pop off? I definitely am. We’ve got some great music on the horizon, people!

Cudi Changes Name of Album, Slated for August

Mr. Rager? Corny, yea. But it directly reflects Cudi’s goofy personality, so it works for him. No better way to describe the change than straight from the man himself. Here’s what he has to say on the album change (and album):

WHY?

i started making this project like a collab album, filled with fun and upbeat records that for the most part left you with jack shit when you were finished listening. i took a step back, went on tour, and realized im where im at because of the type of songs i write. every time i read a comment from someone saying ive touched their lives in some way is what made me want to stop fucking around and continue pouring my life into my music. MOTM2 is dark by nature and instead of bringing you into my dreams like my first album, im bringing you into my reality. good and bad. it will explain more of who iam aswell as pushing the envelope musically. this project will focus on many dark, fun, and ignorant moments in my life since ive been kid cudi in a exciting and cinematic nature continuing the MOTM theme. this is my darkest work so far with a hint of fun and grooviness for those who like the classic chill cudi sound but elevated to another level. the things i cant speak will be the things i write. before anything else, you’d come to the conclusion i need a shrink, a stronger drug or a mentor. not a hug. a lot of you have read the news and think they know cudi, got some slick shit to say amongst your peers or just flat out hate me but you havnt the slightest clue of who iam. i will tell the story of Mr. Rager….

the sound: wouldnt you like to know :)

release: aiming for august

completed? almost, got upcoming sessions with RATATAT and Dot Da Genius on the production side. as far as features ill keep you posted but I DEF got Chip on 2 joints so far. cleveland maneeee

cudder fact: me and dot are a production duo, our first creation is on the new album.

im excited to see what you guys think and i hope you love the new direction. dream on
