The ILLZ – M.P.A. (My Public Apology) [Music Video]

Synopsis by filmmaker Kristopher Rey-Talley: Round 3:

don’t have a ton to say this time. Beauty of this video is what it become in contrast to what we set out to do. What was supposed to be a simple picnic vid became a sensual and romantic ode to French New Wave Films. I wanted it pretty, so I shot long lensed, and to give it that easy, nice flow, would give them topics to talk about and just let them interact as I shot. It was almost like I was staging a documentary and then capturing it. Of all our collabs, this may be the one I’m most proud of. I figured out how to rig a new lens system (my own secret) to give it a very cinematic feel. There’s something effortless and earnest about the video and that’s what I love. Even the performance shot was nailed in one take and I have no qualms about it, as it looks damn great.

Big up to The ILLZ. He’s been creating some great work recently. Here he slows down the music a bit, but for more, check out his site here.

Rhymefest – City is Falling (Live on Kimmel)

‘Fest takes the stage at Jimmy Kimmel’s show to perform his track, “City is Falling.” El Che in stores now, folks.

H.O.P.E. – Bliss feat. Y.O. (Of U.N.I.) Music Video

I was rocking with the song and the video took it to another level. I keep trying to tell folks to get hip to H.O.P.E., but ya’ll don’t hear me though.

Peace,

Clif Soulo

NY Times Profiles The Roots

The Roots’ daily gig as the house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon doesn’t keep them from playing huge shows in Prospect Park or DJ-ing in Williamsburg. Melena Ryzik reports. Pretty good profile piece on a day in the life of The Roots.

Kanye Performs New Tracks at Facebook HQ

I’m not sure what the basis was for him to be performing at Facebook headquarters, out of all places, but Kanye West performed three new tracks for the dweebs. Above is “Mama’s Boyfriend” with “My Chain” and “In this World” after the link:

Freddie Gibbs – National Anthem (F.T.W.) Music Video

Here’s the first single off of Freddie Gibbs’ album. Not your typical mainstream type single, but that’s what I like about Gibbs – he doesn’t try to conform. He just does what he does. Really liking this single, along with the followup single, “Oil Money.”

Gibbs’ album drops on the third of August.

Termanology feat. Ea$y Money – Whats The Answer (music video)

Term & Ea$y Money drop a video for “Whats The Answer,” the itunes bonus track on Terms ‘Time Machine:Hood Politics VI’ Available Now. The track is Produced by Lee Bannon.

Wiz Khalifa Reacts to Winning “Breakthrough MC Award” on MTV2

Wiz big ups his fans for voting him as the Breakthrough MC for MTV2′s sucker free awards, which, ultimately, doesn’t really mean anything. I guess, if anything, it gives a good indication who has the most dedicated fanbase.

J.Cole Speaks with GWHH

J. Cole chops it up with Sgt. Tibs of Gowhere Hip Hop to discuss the “Who Dat” video, his feature on Miguel’s “All I Want Is You”, working with No I.D. on the upcoming debut album (which he confirms is NOT titled ‘Cole World’), non-musical inspirations for the album, and which of this summer’s albums he’s listening to! The video also contains some bonus visuals of J. Cole performing at the WGCI Car and Bike Show at Chicago State University.

Mac Miller – Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza (Music Video)

Rostrum Records’ latest signee Mac Miller returns with the 3rd installment from his video series. This video is entitled “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza” and will appear on his upcoming mixtape “K.I.D.S.” which drops August 13rd. It was directed by Ian Wolfson of Rex Arrow Films. I really, really like the vibe of this track, but I no longer have tolerance for people who talk about weed in every song.

Wale Previews “Friends & Strangers”

The dude from RR with the most annoying laugh in the entire world (much respect, otherwise ha), got a chance to sit in the studio with Wale and preview a new track off of his mixtape, More About Nothing. Sounding pretty good to me!

The Roots ft. John Legend – The Fire (music video)

One of my favorite singles and songs of the year. The vibe, the chorus, the lyrics. Just love everything about it. Rik Cordero puts an unexpected twist on the song by releasing this war-themed music video. My thoughts on the song were a little more literal, but this gives a different meaning to “The Fire.”

Oh, and that white box is supposed to represent the “key to survival.”

Los – Never Landing (Music Video)

Los speeds up the flow a little bit to bring us a music video for the song “Never Landing.” I like this track. Let’s see if people start supporting the kid, who was first introduced to the world when he murdered the “A Milli” instrumental.
