HHU Contest (NYC 21+): Theophilus London + More Friday 3/12
The newly relaunched HipHopUpdate and The Fader want to send YOU AND A FRIEND to see Theophilus London, Ninjasonik, Activaire DJs & more THIS FRIDAY (March 12th) in NYC.
The event will go down at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, which is actually a sick venue. I’ve been to two music & social networking events there and they’ve been great times. Drinks will be provided, as it’s, unfortunately (for some), a 21+ event (and you’ll need id). $40 dollar value for free.
LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW NAMING ONE (Only 1!) UPCOMING HIP-HOP ALBUM YOU’RE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO (currently scheduled to drop) IN 2010. I’LL PICK THE WINNER BASED ON WHICH ALBUM I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO AND IF IT’S NAMED TWICE, THE FIRST PERSON WHO NAMED IT WILL WIN. IF IT’S NOT PICKED BY NOON TOMORROW, I”LL GO TO THE #2 ALBUM AND SO ON….
Open to people living in and around the NYC area and 21+ only. I’ll need your info to submit to get the tickets or you anyway, so don’t be an ass. Contest open til noon tomorrow when I’ll check the comments.
If you don’t win, you can still purchase tickets here and check out The Fader for more info.

Cassidy ft. Swizz Beatz – Henny & Bacardi
This actually dropped a while back as an ode to the classic alcoholic beverages, Hennessy and Bacardi. Here is the final version of that track, which actually feels kind of empty during the Cassidy verses IMO. Produced by Vinylz.
DMX Arrested…Again
Congrats to DMX for his ongoing arrest record of the decade, making him the most street credible rapper in the game.
But on the real, sad situation for DMX. He’s been on an endless cycle of arrests for various issues, but hopefully his addictions won’t go over certain boundaries (and what I really mean is, ultimately lead to his passing or other permanent damage). TMZ has attained the exclusive info on his arrest a few hours ago:
We’re told he allegedly violated the terms of his probation by using illegal drugs over the last nine months.
Yo L.A.! Mark Your Calenders (21+) for 3/15
Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. Shawn Chrystopher will be holding an album listening session at The Standard Hotel right on Sunset BLVD next Monday. Expect Chrystopher to perform a few tracks and enjoy some drinks. 21+. Free event and drinks on a Monday night. Why not?
Jakk Frost ft. Freeway – In This MF (No DJ)
Below is a DJ-Less track from Jakk Frost and Freeway’s latest joint mixtape, “Defense, Offense.” The bearded bro’s from Philly have been working together for a while now, so glad to see them still on the grind. Below is the track and you can hit the jump for the full mixtape (DJ included) + Tracklist.
Young Chris (feat. J.Cole) – Still The Hottest
Download: Young Chris feat. J.Cole
Young Chris has been sounding pretty focused as of late, and this track is a good indicator of what to expect on his forthcoming mixtape, Network 2. On “Still The Hottest”, Chris gets some help from his boy J.Cole and the two continue to push on with the Roc name. (props TSS)
Cudi Continues Work on “Cudder”
There’s speculation as just when the album will actually drop, but it’s nice to see Mr. Mescudi give us some updates on “Cudder: The Revolution of Evolution.” In a new blog post, he gives us some updates:
these last couple weeks have been nothin but work work work for me and its dope to see some positive feedback about the new joint. Seems when some negative shit goes down people tend to forget what got niggaz here n the first place, my art. fuck all that other shit. its always good to see the love and at the end of the day yall kno im 1 of very few artist who actually create for the art of it before anything else. jus some words before i pass out. made progress on 2 joints today production wise, Dot Da Genius puttin in WORK! its like 2007 again, but WAAAAYY ILLUH!
Looking forward to some new material and collabo’s from the Kid.
VEVO Area Codes (202)
This was put out a few weeks back, but didn’t really see it catch on so I wanted to post this up here now. Video service VEVO, essentially, followed Wale around while he talked to some students about his come up and what it took to get where he’s at. He also tours some local spots in DC and VA.
Joell Ortiz’s “Project Boy” Behind the Scenes Video
Here’s a preview video of what to expect from Joell Ortiz’s next video for “Project Boy,” produced by DJ Premier. Props to the Slaughterhouse crew for always putting out that heat. Looking forward to this.
Oh, You Mad Cuz I’m Styling On You?!
Not to get all Kanye on y’all, posting up random pieces of technology, but this thing blew my mind. Behold, the WHY-Yacht. And for only $160 Million, you can own one of these bad boys. Here is the report on this thing:
At the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show last week, design plans were unveiled for a so-called “moving island” yacht called the WHY 58×38. Price tag: $160 million.
The boat’s specifications are impressive – at 190 feet long, guest areas reach 36,000 square feet. The three floors have space for 12 guests and 20 crew members, and the boat features a 426-feet long promenade, a spa, a library, a ‘beach,’ an 82-meter swimming pool, and a helipad.
The ship is a collaboration between Monaco-based yacht brand Wally and Parisian fashion empire Hermès, hence the “W” and “H” of the WHY. The boat is designed to be environmentally friendly, using far less fuel that other yachts of a similar size, in part thanks to wide use of solar panels on the ship.
On the promotional website for the ship, Wally’s president Luca Bassani Antivari writes “Everybody’s dream is to live on an island, in complete freedom, without constraint, with the independence that only self-sufficiency can provide.”
Pierre-Alexis Dumas, creative director, of Hermes also manages to avoid hyperbole, writing, “From the invention of the compass to block capitals, from the rudder to the first steps on the moon, man discovers and pursues his dreams.”
:::Plays “I’m on a Boat” for the rest of my life if I owned one of these::: For additional, absurd pics of this island-boat, hit the link: Read the rest of this entry »

Yung Brodee – Good Die Young
Initially inspired by the deaths and incarceration of his childhood friends, “The Good Die Young,” is dedicated to Derrion Albert of Chicago, Haiti, Chile and many others who are gone too soon. This is off of Brodee’s “100% Authentic” album, dropping in May.
You may or may not recognize the name, but Brodee has been involved in a number of Nipsey Hussle records. Diggin the West Coast flow. You’ll be hearing a lot more from him soon!
